Ellon Rotary "End Polio" campaign

We have already reached the October half-term break.  So much has happened this term.
On Thursday 5th October Ellon Rotarians Eddie and Hilary Gordon (back left and right) came to work with the pupil group "Interact" to plant crocus bulbs into pots.  This will give us gorgeous purple colour in spring and highlight the international "End Polio" campaign.

In other good news, B&Q continue to support our garden project.  In the week of 2nd to 6th October they donated a small shed, some ex-display decking and a trailer full of winter pansy plants.

This kind of support makes a huge difference to the success of the garden so THANK YOU to B&Q Peterhead!

We returned after the summer holidays...

to a well weeded and colourful garden...
thanks to the Ellon Resource Centre group.

Here are some photos of the plants and produce

Pupils have been busy harvesting produce...
we sold some to staff which has raised funds for the garden...
...as well as enjoying cooking and eating produce in our outdoor kitchen...
We also made Chutney to sell...
and the S1 class made purple crisps to enjoy!
Meanwhile other jobs include building a second "extension" onto the back of the shed!
It went from this...
...to this :)
Cleaning all the bird feeders to prevent infection
Building a picket fence to look pleasing whilst helping to guard against rabbits.
Propagating strawberries by potting up the little plants from the runners and...
collecting seeds from the sunflowers.
We have many new EAGer bunch members

Potting up winter vegetables and pansies

We will have two weeks rest then be back with a long list of jobs still to do - the growing season continues in the poly-tunnel and we have construction jobs outside!  Anyone who is interested can have a winter hanging basket planted up in the Christmas term - just email Miss Swallow (or leave a post on this blog).

Thank you to all those staff who have supported the garden project this term by buying produce and plants - all this could not happen without your input!  Thank you also to the pupils, staff and volunteers that have worked so hard to maintain this amazing space!  Enjoy your holidays and "See You Next Term!"
