Big Dig Day a great success! Funds raised for gabions.

The S5 boys had a great day on Friday 21st February.  They were excused from some classes in order to be able to spend the whole day in the Memorial Garden
Our mission was to collect as many stones as possible from the poor soil.
We barrowed them over to make a big pile.  Ross also got "arty" with his camera!
I am proud to say that the boys worked really hard all day
We weeded as we went too
The barrows keep rolling in!
We counted four buckets as one barrow.

Lee from Keenan's also visited to see the site.  They have pledged to donate several truck loads of "soil improver" when we are ready so a huge thank you to them!
Ralf came to help out last lesson to spur us on 😊
The boys take a well deserved 5 minute rest!
By the end of the day this pile had turned into...
this one!  We shifted 21 barrows...
...into two piles
Thank you to all those who sponsored the boys - to date, we have a total of £87!
The gabions cost 31.50 each so we can now afford TWO 😊
Some folk have still pledged funds, so with just £10.50 more, we could buy three gabions so please watch this space!

Memorial Garden News - lots of people chipping in to help in different ways.

Pupils have continued to work hard in the Memorial Garden.  Our focus right now is to put edging round all the paths that Craig laid for us.
Ian our woodworking technician cut the timbers down for us...
...Dougal helps carry the them to the garden.
Huge thanks to John of Buchan Timber for donating the wooden stakes used as pegs to hold everything in place.
Accurate work is required to get it just perfect!
Our faithful volunteer Liz comes in to help!
Pupils continue to rake and collect stones as the soil is very poor.
Talking of stones - this Friday is due to be our BIG DIG DAY!  S5 pupils are getting sponsored to clear as many stones as possible in a full day of work.  If you can, please help by donating to help us buy gabions to put the stones into.  If you are in the area on Friday, please pass by to cheer the boys on too!
Garden designer Jo Evans came in to see progress and is managing to source plants and possibly more materials for us so thank you to her too 😊
Pupils working with Mrs Kershaw have also been busy and creative
These plaques will look lovely in the garden.

Thank you to all these lovely folk helping in so many different ways - it is great to see real progress for our Memorial Garden space.
