National Gardening Week DAY 2

Another busy and constructive day in the garden.  There was lots of teamwork today.  We had to clear the area between the two poly-tunnels ready for it to be levelled with a digger.
Raised beds, timber and slabs needed moving and the weed barrier pulled up.  We started by laying weed barrier inside the new poly-tunnel so the grass can die back over the summer, then used the slabs to weigh the barrier down so it doesn't blow in the wind.
Before...
...after.
Before...
...and after!
Cutting wood to use as supports for our timber pile
Mr Richardson's class came out to collect soil...
...to put into a worm house for their scientific study.
At lunch time, Ross watered the fruit tree borders that have had a feed applied.
He then showed volunteer (and Depute Head Teacher) Mr McLachlan the ropes...
and they mulched the bed with shredded bark.
This will help to keep moisture in the soil and prevent weeds growing.  A huge thank you for them both! :)
This afternoon Euan joined us and we continued to construct the poly-tunnel classroom...
...fixing the wood base rails round the perimeter.

So, another successful day.  Fingers crossed the rain stays off tomorrow and we look forward to more activity and visitors during lunch to enjoy the garden!
