National Gardening Week DAY 3 Rain does not dim our spirits!

Today pupils from four primary schools took delivery of "Lionheart" main-crop seed potatoes from us at Ellon Academy to grow in their own gardens as part of National Gardening Week.
Ellon Primary pupils...
Auchterellon Primary...
Newburgh Mathers school...
...and Tipperty Primary.
Good luck to all of you with planting your potatoes.  Take good care of them and please keep in touch to let us know how you get on!
Meanwhile this afternoon the S1 class came out to the poly-tunnel to check on their seedlings.  All have germinated and are coming on well.  Leeks...

           rainbow chard                                      radish

    more leeks                                            and rhubarb chard.

They then braved the raindrops to dig for worms...

...they collected 15 immature worms to study...

...and housed them in their pre-prepared wormery.  A layer of dried leaves on top will feed them.  It will be kept in a dark cool place  for several weeks to study how the worms behave and grow.

So another active day encouraging people to garden and enjoy the outdoors!  Please return to the blog tomorrow to see what else we get up to now the rain has passed. :)
